Stakeholder Consultative workshop on Climate change mitigation was conducted on 26th February at the conference hall of Climate Change Secretariat (CCS), Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment. Being the responsible organization for preparing climate change mitigation chapter of Third National Communication (TNC) tot UNFCCC, National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC), Sri Lanka organized the event with collaboration of CCS to identify the gaps, challenges and future opportunities related climate change mitigation pathway of the country.
Key Stakeholders from Energy, Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU), Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Uses (AFOLU) sectors participated in the consultative workshop. Prof. Hemanthi Ranasinghe, Dean, University of SJP and National Expert of Mitigation Chapter, Mr Samantha Kumarasena, CEO, NCPC AND Team Leader of the Mitigation team, Prof. Ajith De Alwis, Expert of the waste sector, Prof. Sarath Nissanka, Expert of the Agriculture and Forestry sector and Prof. Parakrama Karunaratne, Expert of the Energy and Industry sector presented the key activities.
From the Project Management Unit of the Ministry Ms Hasula Wickremasinghe, Ms Dakshini_perera, and Mr Jagathdeva Vidanagama , National Coardinator participated in the event. Mitigation team of NCPC also attended the workshop.
Details on Programmes, Projects, Action Plans and statics gathered as stock taking by the Mitigation team was validated and more gaps were identified during the workshop. Stakeholders shared the experience and vision of their institutions to shape the identified climate change mitigation options
