ISO 50001:2011 specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an energy management system, whose purpose is to enable an organization to follow a systematic approach in achieving continual improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, energy use and consumption. Using energy efficiently helps organizations save money as well as helping to conserve resources and tackle climate change. ISO 50001 supports organizations in all sectors to use energy more efficiently, through the development of an energy management system.

NCPC has consulted implementing EnMS in several industries in Sri Lanka.

ISO 14001:2015 EMS helps organizations to improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste, gaining a competitive advantage and build the trust with stakeholders. It is applicable to any organization that wishes to establish, implement, maintain and improve an environmental management system to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmentally oriented requirements.

The newest version of ISO 14001:2015 standard has improvements such as increased prominence of environmental management within the organization’s strategic planning processes, greater input from leadership and a stronger commitment to proactive initiatives that boost environmental performance of organizations.

NCPC has engaged in implementing EMS in organizations from different sectors during past 10 years. It has already completed the development of EMS according to ISO 14001:2015 EMS new standard in 6 companies during the short time span after the introduction of new standard and all those companies has been successfully certified. Development of ISO 14001:2015 EMS in six other companies is successfully underway in this quarter (1st quarter of 2017).

In addition to that NCPC conducts its Consultant development training programme in ISO 14001 EMS annually since 2010 and so far two training programmes has been conducted in 2015 and 2016. The programme has an objective of developing skills in individuals in developing EMS in an organization so that there will be a multiplier effect and propagating EMS in the country.
