Objective of this Course
NCPC Sri Lanka has saved tons of resources and prevented emissions from various industries. This is via adopting Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) efficiently and effectively. This Advance course is to train more practitioners, with the aid of live examples and success stories, on how to translate RECP from theory to practice. Invited International speakers will share the global experiences in applying RECP in various sectors.
What is RECP
Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP)’ is a proactive environment management tool, tested and proven all over the world during last two decades. It analyses all the flows of materials, water and energy throughout the organisation to identify resource saving opportunities. Feasible Cleaner Production solutions are derived in order to turn the opportunities into profits. Waste is recognised as a resource but in wrong form in a wrong place. Thereby wastes are also recirculated into value added products.
How RECP tool can be used efficiently and effectively to increase the profitability of an organization?
RECP practices help industries to achieve sustainability while reducing the impact to the environment. It mainly focuses on resource saving and prevention of pollution through source reduction opportunities. And also, it encourages innovations which can convert the wastes into profits. Since this tool is well-used over two decades, industries have understood the value of practicing the tool to achieve profits while highlighting their commitment to the sustainability. A well-trained RECP practitioner can effectively handle the tool, identifying more options for environmental sustainability and better profits.
Role of NCPC in RECP activities in last two decades
NCPC was established in Sri Lanka almost two decades ago in 2002, in order to promote Cleaner Production. This was set up by UNIDO under the Ministry of Industries. There are more than 50 NCPCs in the world set up by UNIDO and UNEP and those are members of the global network on Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECPnet). Over the past two decades, NCPC Sri Lanka has successfully completed thousands of RECP assessments. When considering the resource saving data for past 5 years since 2016, NCPC Sri Lanka has saved more than 68680 GJ of energy, 87903 m3 of water and has reduced 4027 tCO2eq of Greenhouse gas emissions. NCPC has implemented global projects as well as extended its services to neighbour countries. Considering all those evidences, it is obvious that the individuals who are interested in RECP can gain the best knowledge and practical experiences from NCPC, Sri Lanka.
How this course is designed to achieve the successful dissemination of the knowledge?
This virtual course is designed to cover 15 hours of academic activities during 3 working days including 5 hours per day. These 15 hours consist theoretical lessons, group activities, exercises, local and international success stories and quizzes which are completely designed to ensure precise dissemination and understanding of the key principles of RECP and its’ practical exposures. Other than that, two hours in the evening (one hour from the second consecutive day) is allocated to discuss some exercises considering participant’s convenience and need of understanding the precise methodology.
Course Content can be listed as follows;
- Concept and UNIDO methodology of RECP
- Practical experience in RECP implementation – material, water and energy management (with more than 20 examples for each)
- Feasibility Evaluation of RECP solutions and costing
- Global RECP Experience – Asia and Europe international sector expertise
All the elements in the content is aligned to achieve the premier objective of the course; “Developing capacity in individuals on practical application of Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) with the aid of experience of Sri Lankan and international experts and live examples”.
Is there a performance evaluation method?
Each and every participant will be evaluated upon their adequacy of attendance and the successful completion of the quizzes during the training period. A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
