Chief Executive Officer
Eng. Kumarasena is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Cleaner Production Centre Sri Lanka (NCPC), bringing over 30 years of extensive national and international experience in industrial sustainability, cleaner production, energy management, and environmental performance evaluation.
He holds a BSc (Engineering) degree from the University of Moratuwa (1994), along with a Master’s Degree in Textile Studies and an MBA in Management of Technology from the same university. He is a Chartered Environmental Professional and an Accredited Energy Auditor, with qualifications as a Lead Auditor for ISO management systems including on ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems, and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
Eng. Kumarasena has served as an international trainer, technical consultant, Technical Advisor, Project Leader, and Project Manager for more than 15 international development projects funded by agencies such as UNDP, UNIDO, the European Union SWITCH-Asia Programme, Expertise France, and GIZ across Bangladesh, Cambodia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Vietnam, and other countries, supporting industries and institutions in adopting resource-efficient and environmentally sustainable practices, including cleaner production, climate mitigation, and sustainable consumption and production initiatives.
He is an experienced Cleaner Production and Energy Auditor and is actively engaged in several national-level advisory and technical committees, including the National Adaptation Committee on Climate Change, the National Mirror Committee on Environmental Management Standards, and the National Mirror Committee on Circular Economy in Sri Lanka.
In addition to his industry engagement, Eng. Kumarasena has contributed significantly to capacity building and knowledge dissemination as a visiting lecturer at several universities and as a resource person for professional training institutes in Sri Lanka for over two decades.
