Eng. Samantha Kumarasena

Chief Executive Officer

He has obtained his BSc (Engineering) degree from University of Moratuwa in 1994; subsequently obtained Masters Degree in the field of Textile Studies and MBA in Management of Technology. He is an experienced Cleaner Production auditor and an Energy auditor. He is a competent Lead Auditor in ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ISO 9001 Quality Management System, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and ISO 50001 Energy Management System. He is in the panel of Assessors for assessing Certification bodies for accreditation for ISO 14001EMS under Sri Lanka Accreditation Board. He is a professional with more than 20 years of experience in advisory, capacity building and performance evaluation of the industries at national and international levels. He is a Visiting lecturer to several universities as well as a resource person in several training institutes in Sri Lanka.

He is a member of the Advisory committee of the Accreditation scheme for EMS and QMS certification bodies and a member of the Advisory committee of the accreditation scheme for GHS V/V bodies of Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB). Eng. Kumarasena also is in National Mirror Committee on Environmental Management Systems, a Member of the Management Systems Certification Committee (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, HACCP& ISO 22000) and a Member of the Advisory Committee on Environment Management Systems Certification Scheme at Sri Lanka Standard Institute (SLSI). He is an advisory board member of Life Cycle Assessment and Design for Sustainability Network (LCADeSnet) and Management Systems Users and Promoters Association of Sri Lanka. He is an Executive Committee member of Lanka Responsible Care Council (LRCC).

Eng. Lakmini Edirisinghe

Senior RECP Expert

An Engineering graduate with specialty in Chemical and Process Engineering is the Senior RECP expert at the center. She has completed her Master studies at University of Moratuwa on chemicals management. She has been qualified as a Cleaner Production consultant, system development consultant in ISO 14001:2008 (EMS) and ISO 50001:2011 (EnMS).

She has over 10 years’ experience in the field of Cleaner Production and Chemicals Management, ISO 14001 & 50001 implementation and she is the national coordinator for UNIDO global chemical leasing programme and the secretary of Lanka Responsible care council which was established by International Chemical Council Association.

Eng. Ruwan Wijemanna

Senior Energy Expert

Eng. Ruwan Wijemanne, energy expert of NCPC, who is also a local technical expert for the EU Switch Asia funded project "Resource Efficient Supply Chain for Metal Products in Building Sector in South Asia" (METABUILD) Project. He has obtained B.Sc (Hons) Engineering graduated degree from University of Moratuwa in 2010 in Mechanical engineering field. He is a professional energy auditor and system development consultant in ISO 50001 (EnMS). He is also a Level II certified infrared thermographer, licensed under ASNT at Southern Inspection Services, India.

He has worked as an energy consultant over 8 years and inspected more than 100 factories in major sectors such as Textile, Metal, Recreation, Food, SME and general building sectors. He has also consulted for several non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) power projects in capacity of developing feasibility reports and initial environment examinations (IEEs) for solar, wind, hydro and biomass sector. He is also a resource person to Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) and Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association (SLEMA) and contributed for many projects as an energy auditor and a moderator. He is also an associate member of Institute of Engineers- Sri Lanka (IESL) and SLEMA.

Ms. Nisansala Ranundeniya

Senior RECP Expert

She holds a M. Phil. in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at the University of Peradeniya. She has obtained her B.Sc. (Hons) degree in 2010 with environmental Science and chemistry background. She is the team leader in assessments who is a qualified consultant in ISO 50001:2011 (EnMS), ISO 14001:2008 (EMS) and Cleaner Production. She has over 6 years of experience in water management and engages in water audits, water footprint calculation and waste water treatment in the centre. Further, she conducts Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Initial Environment Examinations (IEE) in various fields.

Ms. Upendra Arjeewani

Senior RECP Expert

Upendra holds a B. Sc degree in Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management and a Masters in Environmental Management from University of Colombo. And also, she possesses a postgraduate diploma in environment management from Dresden Technical University, Germany. She has followed a Post Graduate course on Building Resilience to Climate Change at UN University, Japan. She has participated winter schools on SCP at AIT (Thailand) and TERI (India) and workshops in Germany; Belgium. During her career at NCPC Sri Lanka. She is leading the certification division of NCPC and holding the certification manager responsibilities in the GHG Verification scheme under ISO 14064 and ISO 14067, Persons Certification scheme Under ISO 17024 and Eco Labelling programme in Sri Lanka under ISO 14024 standards. Apart from that she is currently working for national LCI database development for promoting LCA applications in the Sustainability assessment in the country.

Eng. M.M. Munsif

Energy Engineer

Munsif is an Engineering graduate from Curtin University and is currently reading for a Masters in Sustainable Process Engineering at University of Moratuwa. He joined NCPC in 2016 as a member of the Energy Management team. During his six (6) years tenure, he has been involved in conducting CP assessments in more than 100 industries, energy audits in more than 60 industries and consulted in developing ISO 50001 EnMS in more than 15 industrial and commercial buildings.

He was a key member in project METABUILD: an EU Switch Asia funded project in South Asia. The four-year project lead to 3,878 tonCO2eq GHG reduction through resource efficiency improvements in 81 SMEs in metal sector in Sri Lanka.

He is a Technical Consultant for EU-SWITCH ASIA project “PROMISE” which aims to prevent leakage of wastes into the Lakshadweep Sea from tourism industry in line with Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) approach.

Munsif also holds a diploma in Electronic Engineering and have received trainings in Energy management, Resource efficiency, Life Cycle Inventory database development, Green Chemistry and Eco Label development in Sri Lanka and India.
