National Cleaner Production Centre, (NCPC) with the collaboration of Industrial Development board (IDB) and Ministry of Industry and Commerce has commenced the project ‘’ Facilitating SMEs to obtain ISO 14001 certification through Cleaner Production Practices’’. The focus of this project is to reduce the environmental impact from industrial activities through resource efficiency improvements.
Fifteen (15) small and medium enterprises (SMEs) belonging to food (tea, cashew, bakery & dairy), packaging, furniture manufacturing and metal sectors has been selected for this project. NCPC provides consultancy services to optimize the usage of resources through the Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) approach and to develop Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in companies
Further, comprehensive energy audits will be carried out in five energy intensive industries out of the selected fifteen (15) industries. Subsequently IDB will provide financial assistance to take remedial actions or preventive measures to minimize waste of resources and to obtain ISO 14001: 2015 EMS Certification for the industry.
